A mindful hospitality guest also refers to as a responsible guest, is anyone who is conscious about his/her behaviour and attitude and how it can affect the people around them. For example, as a guest at a particular hotel or a restaurant respecting culture and or the people around you, avoid wasting food and water are crucial. A mindful hospitality guest is also a key figure to sustainable hospitality. Because behaving otherwise could also have significant impact on social, environment and the economy. According to University of Buckinghamshire, sustainable hospitality isn’t a trend, however ‘’ it’s a responsibility and opportunity for the industry to redefine its impact on the planet’’. Meaning, when you position yourself as a mindful guest within your own reach, you are not only helping the people around you but the whole planet in the future.
A mindful hospitality guest is as good as what he/she do daily and these are not rocket science actions, however they are common and easy actions that can be undertaken by anyone. Examples of these common actions are food and water usage. Thus, avoid wasting food, eat according to your limit at restaurants, be mindful of water usage at hotels.
We are all mindful at home when it comes to food and water waste because any negligence actions at home cost our own pocket. Other symptoms regarding unmindful actions outside derive from social media influence. Thus, lots of people tend to ask for more varieties of food on their plates only to promote their social media content. The goal of this podcast is not to disregard people behaviour regarding their own choices but rather it’s to encourage people to be more cautious about what they do daily.
There are simple ways to go by food mindfulness at restaurants. For example, always eat according to what you can eat, not more or less. Don’t overorder food to promote your social media content. If you are unable to eat everything, ask waitress to pack your food in a container to take it home and eat it when you can.
Mindfulness in the hospitality industry is not one-party task but rather a collective action. The government look out for potential hazards, waste and risks the industry is causing, hospitality providers takes governments requirements into actions by also should giving room for the guest to become mindful.
